Welcome to the newest edition of The Scarbrough Journal. The first quarter of 2025 has been dominated by talks of tariffs and trade wars, so we are taking this opportunity to focus this edition of the Journal on customs. In this edition, we cover everything from the beginnings of customs in America to how customs agencies now operate across the world.

We’ll explore some of the differences in customs processes in different countries. We’ll also explain some of the common mistakes we see people make when dealing with customs agencies around the world. And since tariffs are the talk of the moment, we dive deeper into the history of tariffs and what their actual purpose is in global trade. Finally, we are excited to introduce an exclusive new program for Scarbrough customers – leveraging AI to validate all HTS classifications in your library.
