Protecting Your Value Chain with Altana
As of July 1, 2024, Scarbrough entered into a partnership with Altana, the world’s first Value Chain Management System. Altana provides Scarbrough and our clients with a unified, comprehensive approach that goes far beyond supply chain risk management, with unprecedented visibility, contextualized AI decision support across business areas, and a collaborative network with end-to-end workflows to get jobs done.
Altana’s platform is able to deliver a real-time, dynamic map of each company’s entire supply chain – from finished product all the way down to the raw materials. Most of our customers have a pretty clear understanding of their Tier 1 and sometimes even Tier 2 suppliers. Our partnership with Altana provides further clarity and insight into the Tier 3 suppliers and beyond, where things tend to get murky for most businesses. This unprecedented level of visibility allows customers to make informed, confident decisions relating to their supply chain.
Our partnership with Altana will allow our clients to vet new and existing suppliers and products against every compliance requirement – from forced labor to climate to sanctions – with exposure flags and triage workflows, documentation and remediation, and regulatory reporting. With this newfound visibility and insights, our staff will work with you to create solutions to keep your supply chain running smoothly.
Mitigate risk with unprecedented supply chain visibility
Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA)
Aside from the efficiency and visibility offered by Altana, this will help ensure your company is engaging in ethical business practices all the way across your value chain. Altana is the same partner used by U.S. Customs & Border Protection to enforce the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). The UFLPA went into effect in 2022 to prohibit the import of goods into the United States that were produced either wholly or in part with forced labor in China, specifically the Xinjiang region. US CBP is to detain any goods that it determines were made using these unethical business practices. Detention of goods is not only time-consuming, but also extremely costly. Since the UFLPA was enacted in 2022, US CBP has detained more than $2.4B worth of shipments containing goods made in violation of the UFLPA.
Thanks to Altana, our customers can now proactively avoid these risks. By applying AI to its existing network of data, Altana provides twice the supply chain visibility of other providers. In turn, we are able to offer our customers a brand-new opportunity to screen new and existing suppliers across their value chain for potential risk factors.
We understand that most of our clients already have more than enough to focus on to keep their businesses running smoothly and efficiently. Constantly vetting and monitoring their suppliers just isn’t practical. Altana will automatically monitor and screen all shipments and suppliers for compliance exposures across forced labor, sanctions, export controls, and more. If it flags any risks, it will highlight those risks and allow our customers to investigate them. And if you need to source a new supplier to remain in compliance with the UFLPA, Altana will search for and screen across millions of suppliers to ensure your goods are ethically sources and compliant.
Simplify Classifications
Altana can also help customers maintain trade compliance by verifying their HS classifications. With AI-powered learning, Altana can read through your entire library of goods to ensure proper classification and trade compliance. This process will save countless hours by only flagging goods the AI deems to be misclassified, allowing customers to review only certain goods as opposed to spending time auditing the entire library. Altana can then continually audit all transactions and products for potential compliance risks or misclassification. From there, our team of global trade experts and Licensed Customs Brokers will work with you to ensure correct classification of all goods. We’ll help you understand the problem as we work with you to rectify it, so you can avoid potential missteps in the future. Whether it is a one-time audit or an annual review, we can ensure your entire library of goods is compliant moving forward.
